It's August. Damn. I honestly didn't mean to leave things lying around here that long. Life just....*handwaves* It did the thing where things happened too fast for me to really hang on unless I did almost next to nothing else and even then my head is STILL spinning.

... so let's try to catch-up, shall we?

SO. As it said on the tin, I gained a new job in place of my old one. Here's a BRIEF synopsis of what actually happened:

July started! Things were sortof okay. New girl was training, I was down to only 30 hours a week (just BARELY under 32 hours, which is technically part-time), and Life was sorta okay. Then the new girl quit! To the surprise of everyone! Only except not because of how rough my job actually IS. Oh, excuse me, past tense. WAS.

So suddenly we have no other help. Which meant my hours went back up.

Not even a WEEK later, my manager decide to write me up for four different infractions. Now, my plan had been to keep my head down until August (which is when I could transfer to another store), but my manager had other ideas. Employees cannot transfer if they have even a level 1 write-up on their records. My manager put FOUR DIFFERENT ONES DOWN (and not even the same one that she Talked to me about in June. That one could have been an easy one to pin me for!), which meant I couldn't transfer until January of 2014.

I understand how valuable of an employee I am and, considering these write-ups happened after the loss of our new kid AND after I had openly talked to a few of the other managers about transferring, I'm 90% sure she was expecting me to just eat the write-ups and continue on with life. Except for the fact I had no guarantee that she WOULDN'T pull this stunt again come Nov/Dec of this year, so I decided to call her bluff the only way I knew how.

I put in my two weeks.

I had been loosely job hunting since I got back from Huntsville in June, but I really dug my heels into hunting in July. One callback I got turned out to be an insurance scam, another one (which would have been SUPER AMAZING because it was work in an art studio) never even bothered to call me back after I interviewed*, and then wound up with my third.... I guess "choice" would be the best word to use, since I did choose to apply there... Anyway, I'm now stocking shelves for a relatively well-known art supply store (no not that one, the other one), and granted it's temp work - it's still work.

Job basics are pretty basic. The store is moving locations, so it's all hands on deck for August. Then in September, if they still like me, I get hired for Seasonal work. If I can survive the holiday season (haha, I've worked Black Friday for six years), they'll offer me a permanent part-time position.

Think I'm gonna be okay. It's a pretty harsh pay cut, but (and I'll get to the crunchy bits about this in a minute) I have a TON of options for Crystal Dreams, so I'm hoping I can start making up the difference come New Years**. The work environment seems to be much healthier, plus the uniform is pretty lax. I get to wear jeans! ((At least until the new store opens, then it's khakis or black pants)). I'm also enjoying a brief, one-week vacation. Mostly because my new manager has hired 44 other people and only has so many hours to go around for the position. I jump into stocking week after next, so I am going to try to make the most of my time as possible.

Whiiiiiiiiiich leads right into my art endeavors!

I'm pretty proud for (mostly) being able to keep up with a Monday/Wednesday/Friday update schedule for CDS. I know I've fallen off updating FA/DA/any of my other sideblogs ever, but one step at a time. I have ingested a LOT of art tips and tricks during this downtime which has further fueled my desire to start working on stuff.
Late one night, a few days before I quit, I got a spark of inspiration to make a list of all the projects I've been wanting to work on. In as much or little detail as I could get. I'm updating it now, actually, because it also has a spot at the bottom for things I want/need to make. Looking at it just... I am so fucking amazed that I still have the ability to draw after Kinko's. I really am. My production has slowed to a crawl because of it, but now that I don't have to brace myself for getting up every day and scraping the bottom of my reserves at night... I have so much STUFF to do.

This might actually get its own post, come to think of it. Suffice to say, I'm learning, growing, and getting stupid excited about FINALLY being able to tackle a bunch of super old projects.

Lessee... in mundane news, not long after Animal Crossing came out, I mortgaged the OTHER half of my soul to a silly online dragon-game. Which then promptly rolled over and screamed at how many new players it was getting. I managed to get myself in, plus a couple of my other friends, so if anyone is playing Flight Rising, I'm over: [here], :D

((It's a really fun and silly game, which some people take WAY SRSLY and wow is the economy stilted right now))

I also downloaded a collection on Steam that included Spelunx (Spelunx and the Caves of Mr. Seudo - which was one of my FAVORITE GAMES as a kid), Myst (and all of its sequels) and a couple of other things that I didn't really care about. I honestly have yet to boot up Myst (which now that I think about it is super surprising - might have to fix that tonight). Also nabbed 'Orcs Must Die' which is a SUPER FUN tower-defense game. So many new games *o*

A neat thing I discovered... well a few days ago, but yesterday is when it kicked my ass into gear about cleaning, is [this website]. It's called Unfuck Your Habitat. On the surface, it's just a cleaning blog with super helpful "How to" cleaning tips/suggestions. What makes it amazing (to me) however, is how SUPPORTIVE this blog is. The owner doesn't care how sick/healthy/wealthy/poor you are. People are never shamed for HOW badly their habitat may be fucked up; everyone is equal in their un-fucking progress. The key aspects are pretty awesome to. Spend 20 minutes cleaning something, take a 10 minute break. Rinse repeat until whatever surface/room you are cleaning is done.
I managed to get a LOT cleaned yesterday and, while I haven't been the most focused today, I have done a fair amount of un-fucking to my art desk.

Pretty awesome stuff!

So yes. That's where I've been. True to form, I got 40 hours work-weeks right up until my last day, which means a decent paycheck to hold me over until my new paycheck starts happening. Never going back there EVER again though. I mean it this time.

Hfff, think that's everything. Hope everyone is doing okay. I still check my Friend's Page, even if I'm horrible about commenting. Gotta try to change that soon. Gonna go back to cleaning my desk and then get some dinner, I think.

* - which, as a side note. If you tell someone, "I'll call you back to tell you if you did or did not get the job.", either call them back when you say you will OR AT LEAST ANSWER THEIR FUCKING EMAIL ABOUT THE JOB. I waited the allotted amount of time they said they'd get back to me, sent an email after that time had passed and have absolutely NOTHING from them. It's been two weeks now. Pretty sure I didn't get it, :|

** - I'm not stupid enough to think I'll have anywhere NEAR a decent income before then, but I'm aiming for New Years to at least be able to like.. pay one bill from art money or something.

I got the "We'll call you either way" thing so many times I lost count. No one ever does.

I got rejections before the interview even happened (though after it was scheduled. That was fun). It's a freaking pain.

I'm glad you got something at least, and good on you for putting in two weeks when it was clear what the motivation was.

Glad you got out of the bad work situation and into something where you're not being thrown under the bus... We're working for the same employer now, yes? Either way, you'll do well.

Ganbatte kudasai!
